Lightweight Fill Material for Landscaping & Green Roofs

Less than a tenth of the weight of typical soil or hardcore, TECHNOpor® is an excellent fill material for landscaping on carpark roofs (see right and below) and green roofs.  Due to its closed cell structure, TECHNOpor® lightweight aggregate is free draining.  And, as it has a high coefficient of friction, it is ideal for slope stabilisation and, again, roofs; TECHNOpor®, when compacted, is stable at 45degrees, but even uncompacted can be applied to surfaces at 15degrees.

Concrete - free Construction

TECHNOpor® glass foam aggregate has been used to form an insulating floor slab supporting lime flooring in strawbale housing [see diagrams below from Straw Works – Partners page].  Similarly, it can be used to support and insulate timber frame structures; TECHNOpor® has a compressive strength of 500kN/m2, meaning loads of 50tonnes/m2 present no problem [see Technical Info page].

French Drains and load-reducing Backfill

Given its attributes of strength and light weight, TECHNOpor® makes an excellent fill aggregate to reduce the loading on retaining walls, to combat slope instability, or to sure up poor/wet ground conditions.  TECHNOpor® is free draining, due to its closed cell structure, and thus makes an excellent aggregate for french drains.  Combine these two benefits and you have an insulating, free-draining, load-reducing backfill to basement and ground-level external walls for wet, sloped and poor ground conditions.

Road Construction

TECHNOpor® is a light weight, but extremely strong, fill material used in road construction. It reduces the overall weight of roads in poor soil conditions, and thus has been used on several major junctions and embankment projects on the Continent.
